Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion:

Do you have an active relationship with the local First Nations and Indigenous communities?

Arts Whistler has an excellent relationship with the Lil’wat Nation, whose members support us with Indigenous protocol assistance, providing welcomes from elders or others for special events, we have programmed several exhibitions involving Lil’wat artists and have partnered with them on Indigenous presentation series. These relationships include both colleagues and people who have become dear friends. We continue to strengthen our relationship with the Squamish Nation and are actively fostering ways to create more frequent collaboration.

Do you have a diversity strategy, anti-racism or decolonization statement in place and can it be found on your website?

Yes

Arts Whistler conducts its work on the unceded territories of the Sk̲wx̲wú7mesh Nation and Líl̓wat Nation. We respectfully honour their cultures and traditions. We support the 94 recommendations of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission and commit to taking action on recommendations involving culture, arts and education. It is our hope that creativity and the arts continue to be an integral part of the Truth and Reconciliation journey in this country.

What are your current actions and  future commitments to build or maintain your relationship with the First Nations and Indigenous artists and community?

Arts Whistler is committed to fair and equitable treatment, representation and prosperity for all peoples in our communities and our industry. We condemn all forms of racism, discrimination, intolerance, and bigotry and work to use the power of the arts, creativity and self-expression to attain equality and representation for everyone. Arts Whistler is committed to fostering community wellbeing and actively exploring any required changes to our policies, initiatives, and practices to best support communities and address the root causes of inequalities.
